Join Michael Thesing at DistribuTech 2018 for SCADA with Advanced Applications

By November 14, 2017January 9th, 2019Expired

SmartGrid experts Michael Thesing and John D. McDonald, PE bring more than 60 years of combined experience in this area, and share “real world” equipment and project examples to teach Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) with Advanced Applications as part of the Utility University® at DistribuTech®.

The course takes place in room 211 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX on Monday, January 22, 2018 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.). It provides a comprehensive examination of electric utility SCADA systems, as well as adjacent technologies, techniques, and industry best practices. Key topics include:

  • SCADA system benefits, building blocks, and case studies
  • Introduction to and comparison of communication technologies, protocols, and system uses
  • Distribution automation and management systems
  • Advanced applications and integration with other systems such as OMS and AMI
  • Different types of SCADA architectures
  • Cyber security best practices

A student new to SCADA will leave with a thorough understanding of why these systems are so important to reliable grid operation and what steps are required for effective deployment. A veteran SCADA user will be able to fill in knowledge gaps and gain new ideas for improvements and upgrades.
