Behind the Scenes with Civil Engineering

By May 22, 2015uPDate

Did you know that every substation, every subdivision, every highway, transmission line, rail station, industrial facility, playground, ball park, airport, runway… they all begin with Civil Engineering?

Since 1947, P&D’s civil engineering teams have worked diligently behind the scenes, assisting clients with an array of projects. From feasibility assessments to site development to permitting and construction documents to preparing as-builts, your P&D civil team continues to deliver best-in-class civil, environmental and structural engineering services.

Meet the Team

Our Civil Engineering team comprises a unique blend of talented professionals who come to the table with diverse experiences, backgrounds and interests. We are engineers who provide the quality, bankable expertise, and the on-time project delivery our clients expect.  But more than that, we are a cohesive and collaborative team of people – people with personalities, people you will enjoy working with.

Anita-and-spiderAnita Atkinson

Vice President, Civil Engineering and Surveying

Anita is the fearless (except spiders) leader of P&D’s Civil Engineering and Surveying department, where she leverages the wide range of skills and expertise offered by a group of talented engineers and highly qualified technical personnel to tackle civil engineering challenges such as site design, foundation design, turnkey project management, environmental and SPCC studies, feasibility studies, surveying and more.

Anita has more than 14 years of experience in the electrical utility industry, specializing in power line design, power delivery infrastructure (transmission and distribution), research, planning, consulting, and training. She is a closet creative who enjoys using her right brain to design note cards and stationery in her spare time – you may even see her collection at a local craft fair.

Dan-golfDan Baumann

Project Manager

Before joining P&D, Dan worked with general contractors in the construction industry. His experience encompasses a wide array of project types include laboratories, educational facilities, hotels, and sporting venues.

He has returned to his civil engineering roots to provide project management and environmental engineering services to P&D clients.

Dan is an 18 handicap, happy hour aficionado, amateur handyman, and lousy painter. He recently got engaged and will be hitched in the fall, assuming the wedding planning doesn’t finish him first.

Kyle-War-EagleKyle Bunnell

Civil Engineering Assistant

Kyle recently graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He joined P&D as a civil engineering assistant, where he uses AutoCAD with Civil 3D to develop substation grading, erosion and sediment control plans.

A self-proclaimed corn-hole professional, Kyle enjoys hunting, fishing, and losing his voice at Auburn football games (War Eagle!).

Martin-DJMartin Leckie

Senior Civil Engineer

Our lead site design engineer, Martin is a Helluva Engineer, having obtained his degree from Georgia Tech.

Martin came to P&D from the site development industry, experienced with several types of projects including residential subdivisions, commercial and light-industrial developments, mixed-use, recreation areas, transit facilities, and road & intersection improvements.

Martin is a music connoisseur (particularly Dubstep), a movie buff, and can identify almost any car on the road.  He is the proud father of three children, and is married to his lovely wife, JoJo.

Mr_PectacularZac Wahl

Structural Engineer

A Structural Engineering graduate from Georgia Tech, Zac provides structural design of substations for electrical utilities.  Prior to joining P&D, he designed multi-story buildings specializing in multi-family housing, as well as building component and cladding design and testing.

Zac married his high school sweetheart and together they have a son named Hamilton Porter – you may recognize that name from the movie The Sandlot (“You’re killing me, Smalls”).  If this engineering thing doesn’t work out, Zac would embark upon a world tour with the professional eating circuit, or step into the squared circle as a professional wrestler named Mr. Pectacular.

How Can We Help You?

Do you have a site selected?  We can determine the feasibility.  Need a set of construction plans? We can do that.  Need help coordinating with utility providers?  No problem!  Construction management? We can do that, too.
